Dyslexia

Dyslexia Treatment in Sudbury, MA

Assessment:

There are many forms of dyslexia that most people are not even aware of, such as attentional dyslexia, neglect dyslexia, surface dyslexia, phonological dyslexia, deep dyslexia, etc.  Some forms of dyslexia are present from birth, and others are acquired after birth from a brain insult or other anomalies. As a leading neuroscientist of reading and dyslexia who has contributed to the models that we use today as to how reading works/fails (see Wikipedia links below), I am able to assess reading disorders in ways that others do not.

There are many facets of processing that contribute to good and poor reading (attention, memory, phonology, orthography, serial processing, visual spatial, etc.) and at many levels (letter, word, sentence, paragraph). Having the most comprehensive understanding of reading and dyslexia as a scientist, I am able to decipher why reading is failing and what to do about it.

Treating Dyslexia

Given a comprehensive understanding of the field of reading and dyslexia and everything that can go wrong and why, once I have assessed a person, I am able to write reading remediation programs for children unique to their individual concerns, which saves a lot of time, reduces frustration and aggravation, and increases confidence and outcomes. I work with tutors, teachers, and schools to train them on the implementation of reading programs.  After developing reading remediation programs and advising/training people on how to implement them, I can follow up by re-testing reading and/or the subskills behind reading that we are working on, to determine gains and adjust the program or teaching methods accordingly.
