Educational Assessment

Educational Assessment in Sudbury, MA

Educational assessments look at all “school-related” achievement, such as reading, math, writing, oral language, and the many different aspects of each of these, e.g., receptive vs expressive language, many different ways of reading, etc.

These assessments are conducted to diagnose learning disorders or concerns, know if your child/you are at grade level or not and why/why not, monitor and improve the efficacy of teaching/tutoring methods by measuring achievement over time and adjusting teaching programs accordingly, for IEP (individualized education plans) consideration in schools, for accommodations at university, and/or to receive extended time/accommodations on tests such as the SAT, LSAT, etc.

As a scientist of reading/dyslexia, I offer the most comprehensive assessments available for those who might be struggling with reading, and advise schools/teachers on how to improve their child’s learning with unique programs tailored to the data obtained. I sometimes train teachers/tutors as well and can monitor learning over time to tweak programs as needed. Educational laws typically give schools 3 years to “catch up” to peers via an IEP program, and sometimes will pay for a child to go to a different school if they are not able to make those gains (which is why monitoring your child’s learning can be a good idea).

I have been advocating for people at their schools for twenty years and am versed in the laws and steps for IEP creation as well as accommodations for SATs, LSATs, etc. I have also worked as a school psychologist in Massachusetts and am happy to advocate for you/your child by attending any IEP meetings and helping you understand your/your child’s rights in the educational system.
