Psychological Assessment

Psychological Assessment in Sudbury, MA

Psychological assessments are conducted when emotional, behavioral, or personality concerns are a priority. Should you/your child be considering therapy or psychological services, I highly recommend a psychological assessment. It can take a therapist years to understand a person, but a psychological assessment allows us to provide these parties with a “to-do” list that details not only diagnostic/areas of concern, but how you/your child responds to different types of treatments, which may/may not work and why, and how to approach treatment services.

These assessments are also a good idea for documenting psychological changes over time once treatment is started.  Unlike neuropsychological and neurodevelopmental assessments, psychological assessments are typically a snapshot in time and change as people develop and grow with education, experience, medication changes, brain healing, etc.

If you are an adult, these assessments can help you better understand yourself and improve interpersonal relationships. These assessments can also “add to” neurodevelopmental data/assessments of adults in particular (or adolescents).  Sometimes you or a loved one may have experienced an abrupt change in affect/behavior following a traumatic event or a head injury and may wish to have a psychological assessment done to rule out/examine PTSD, depression, anxiety, personality disorders, or other issues. This assessment can let you know if depression/anxiety is mild, moderate, or severe and can help guide medication or other treatment decisions.
